Discomposure
Fear is something that resonates with everyone. Fear is not easily expressed through words. This body of work explores the many fears that are universally faced; fear of being forgotten, fear of the unknown/future, fear of loss of time. I chose these fears to be universal instead of specific to attract an audience that will relate to them as a whole. Fear is something that we shouldn’t hide, because everyone is fearful of something.
I am inspired by the raw 3-dimensional emotions that can be portrayed through clay, and how thinking about a form in a less literal way can change our perspective. The lines and colors that connect these pieces to each other abstractly represent how similar fears are. The dulled colors are a representation of painful and depressing thoughts that correlate with fear. As these forms connect us to each other, the viewer is left with an interpretation of their own and something they may not have known they were afraid of.
