Artist Statement:
This collection of photographs explores the themes of mental health focusing on my personal journey with depression and how I have found healing with the support of friends, family, and most importantly my faith. This is not just a reflection of my own story but also a
tribute to those who are battling similar struggles silently. The series serves as a reminder that we are not meant to carry this alone, and healing can be found.
Through the use of illustrative lighting, creative compositions, and dynamic angles the images capture the emotions and realities of a person living with mental health issues. The first half of the series conveys the sense of isolation and trapped in the pit of depression. As the collection progresses, gradually the audience can see a noticeable shift in color saturation and increase of contrast to symbolize the gradual return of light, life, and hope. This transition represents the healing process and the strength that it takes to move forward.
The hope for this collection is to show a testament of resilience and a message that no matter how deep the pit may seem there is always a way out. By sharing my story, I aim to encourage others to find that hope and know that they do not have to carry this burden alone.
