Artist Reception: Saturday, Nov.11 @ 11:00am
Exhibition Statement:
Midwest Alterations presents photographic works by photographer and retired biology teacher William Porter. Growing up in Chicago Heights, at an early age, Porter developed an obsessive fascination with both nature and photography and decided to merge the two. He moved to Kankakee, taking a teaching position at Bradley Bourbonnais High School, where he taught for 32 years while participating in Kankakee Area Camera Club and Chicago Area Camera Club photography competitions. Over the span of several decades his photographic techniques advanced from darkroom photography to computer-manipulated, photography based digital imagery, often creating images that fell under into the camera club defined category “Alteration of Reality”. Midwest Alterations features a small sample of Porter’s many traditional and experimental photographic images of flora and fauna captured in the Midwest.
