Artist Statement
“We are a mosaic of everyone we’ve ever loved,” – Fatimah Alayafi.
This quote perfectly describes the way we are impacted by the people in our lives, and the way we impact them in return. I find so much joy in the art of photography - taking photos and freezing a moment in time. This body of work, Life’s Mosaics, is composed of images of
family, friends, and sentimental locations.
Throughout this collection, the images portray the authenticity and significance of relationships. Each piece is altered either graphically or in a collage format to show cohesion and to represent the different pieces of one's life. Every piece provides a glimpse into a different story about a specific place or moment in time. There is a continuation of black and white elements along with blue hues to communicate a theme of peace and tranquility - feelings commonly associated with relationships between family and friends. The arrangement of the pieces in this body of work illustrates the concept of the mosaics of life, demonstrating how the various people
and places in one’s life constitute the fabric of one’s being and come together to create a complete, unique story.
