A Glimpse of Heaven
Nostalgia- a wonderful blessing that allows us to reflect on our past and see God's influence in all our experiences, making them truly remarkable. If we actively seek it out, we can discover beauty in our everyday lives and see things from a new perspective. The concept of this work, inspired by music, encapsulates the beauty and vision of things of this world in which God can be seen, exploring the people, places, things, a memory, nostalgia, or simply a feeling.
The themes of love, loss, personal growth, and the transient nature of life are explored in the song "Towers" by Zach Bryan. The song's imagery can be symbolized by ambitious aims, desires, or important emotional milestones individuals create in their lives - whether they are relationships, personal goals, or experiences. He poses a contemplative query on whether God is perceived as a person or something else, prompting reflections on spirituality and faith through the song lyric “Do you think God’s a person…or…”. This statement implies an investigation into how we perceive God- whether as a human-like being or as something that is abstract, transcendental, or beyond our comprehension.
Where I Find God not only includes the artwork that depicts these feelings in the form of painting and drawing, but it also includes a corresponding original poem inspired by song based on personal feelings or ideas. The idea of peace and romanticizing life in a spiritual way, a connection to God and his connection to the beauty of life is a major theme explored throughout this work.
There are a few artists who have inspired me in terms of brushwork and aura as far as painting. Artist Claude Monet and John Walsom delve into an illustrative style and use of texture that tells a specific story, an opportunity to give the audience an experience that shares one’s own.
Most importantly, through exploring these ideas, my goal for this body of work was to show a perception of life. For the viewer, their experience observing my work will be one of learning more about not only me as an artist, but how I perceive life through a spiritual lense: one that is ambitious and energetic.
